Make a bootable USB installer
Write a Windows or Linux ISO to a USB stick with Rufus, Ventoy or Etcher.
You need a USB stick of at least 8 GB (16 GB for Windows) and an ISO file from the official downloads page. Everything on the stick will be erased.
Option A: Rufus (Windows)
- Download Rufus from its official site and run it.
- Select your USB stick under Device, then click Select and choose the ISO.
- Keep the suggested partition scheme (GPT for modern PCs) and click Start.
Option B: Ventoy (many ISOs on one stick)
- Install Ventoy on the USB stick once.
- Copy any number of ISO files onto the stick like normal files.
- Boot from the stick and pick the system you want from the menu.
Option C: balenaEtcher (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Open Etcher, choose Flash from file, select the stick and click Flash. It verifies the result automatically. Etcher is best for Linux images.
Boot from the USB stick
Restart the computer and open the boot menu, usually with F12, F11, F9 or Esc right after power-on (it depends on the brand). Choose the USB stick.
