Clean install Windows 11
Back up, boot from USB and install a fresh copy of Windows.
Before you start
- Back up your files to an external drive or cloud storage. A clean install erases the system drive.
- Note which Wi-Fi network you use and make sure you know the Microsoft account password.
- If the PC came with Windows, its license is usually stored in the firmware and activates automatically after installation.
1. Create the installer
On the official Windows 11 page, use the Media Creation Tool, or download the ISO and follow the USB installer guide.
2. Install
- Boot from the USB stick and choose language and keyboard.
- Choose Install Windows 11, then the edition that matches your license (usually Home or Pro).
- When asked where to install, delete the old Windows partitions on the system drive only, select the unallocated space and continue.
- Follow the setup screens and sign in.
3. After installation
- Run Settings › Windows Update until no updates are left.
- Install graphics drivers from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
- Install your apps in one go with the New computer setup kit.
